Rosneath Peninsula1418 viewsThis postcard was sent on April 22 1905 to Miss Edith Suckling, of Glenelg, Helensburgh, by someone called Campbell. On the front is written: “Having a fine day here, but awfully bothered with showers.†It shows the Edwin Lutyens-designed Ferry Inn, commissioned by Queen Victoria's daughter Princess Louise in the 1890s and rebuilt from an old pub. Bob Hope stayed there while entertaining troops at the nearby World War Two naval base. It fell into disuse, but was rebuilt again in the late 1950s by boatbuilder Peter Boyle.

Transatlantic transmission1417 viewsAn October 3 1929 newspaper image of John Logie Baird and his TV equipment. The caption on a companion picture stated: "One more dream of science has been realised. Man's vision has spanned the Ocean, and transatlantic television has been demonstrated to be a reality. A man and a woman sat before an electric eye in a London laboratory last night, and a group of people in a darkened basement in the village of Hartsdale, New York, watched them turn their heads and move from side to side. The images were crude and broken, but they were images nevertheless."

Second clubhouse1416 viewsHelensburgh Golf Club's 'Tin Hut' clubhouse in its second position. The original clubhouse was built in 1894 just to the west of the Old Luss Road, but it was upgraded and moved in 1900 close to the West Highland Railway Line at East Abercromby Street. In 1909 it was acquired by Vale of Leven Golf Club and in that year the present clubhouse was opened.

Royal Guide Colours1416 viewsHRH Princess Louise, the Dowager Duchess of Argyll, who lived the later years of her life in Rosneath Castle, presents new colours to the 1st Rosneath Peninsula Girl Guides in 1928. On another occasion she presented the Union Flag to the 1st Cove and Kilcreggan Guides, and it is the oldest in the County of Dunbartonshire and still used in parades. Prime Minister's visit1414 viewsPrime Minister Stanley Baldwin is greeted by the Rev Andrew Barr when he arrived at the West United Free Church (now the West Kirk) to unveil a five-light commemorative window by Oscar Paterson to Andrew Bonar Law, Prime Minister from 1922-23, his wife Annie, and their two sons who were killed in the First World War.
