Caledonian no.1231790 viewsCaledonian locomotive no.123 pictured at the Helensburgh engine depot in 1948 during an excursion to mark the centenary of the Caledonian Railway. Built by Neilson & Co. in Springburn in 1886, she won a gold medal at the Edinburgh International Exhibition that year. In regular service, no.123 worked on the 101-mile Carlisle to Edinburgh section of the west coast route. She was withdrawn in 1935 and is now an exhibit at Glasgow's Transport Museum. Several engines were based at Helensburgh although they were nominally allocated to Parkhead. Of Gresley design and introduced in 1930, engines in this class weighed 84 tons.

Cameron House1782 viewsCameron House at Duck Bay, Loch Lomond, before it became a luxury hotel. It was the family home of Patrick Telfer Smollett and his wife Gina, surrounded by 25 acres of gardens which for some years he operated as a Bear Park before he sold the property in 1986. The 18th century baronial mansion — for a time the home of 18th century novelist and poet Tobias Smollett — was steeped in Scottish history, and contained many unique and unusual collections.
