Second Rhu Church1272 viewsA very old image of the second Row Kirk which stood from 1763-1851 when the present church and tower was built. The first Row Kirk was completed in 1649, a year after the Parish of Row was created from lands belonging to the ancient parishes of Cardross and Rosneath.

Shandon Hydro1272 viewsThe Shandon Hydropathic Hotel. Originally West Shandon, this magnificent building was the home of Robert Napier, the greatest figure in Clyde shipbuilding and marine engineering in the mid-19th century. During World War One the Hydro became a hospital, and in World War Two it was used by the army. In 1951 it became a hotel again, but in 1957 it was closed and demolished. Image date unknown.

Hover travel1269 viewsThe Clyde Hover Ferries Westland SRN6 hovercraft, which operated a service from Craigendoran pier to Greenock from 1965-6 is pictured arriving at Craigendoran pier. Powered by a Bristol-Siddeley Marine Gnome engine, it was 48 foot long, could carry 48 passengers, and had a maximum speed over calm water of 64 knots. Afterwards there was a post-show party at the Princess Louise Officers Club, the Ferry Inn.
