Waverley at Craigendoran1272 viewsBuilt by A. & J.Inglis at Pointhouse, Glasgow in 1946, the 693-ton Waverley entered service in 1947 and is the world's last sea-going paddler. She replaced the previous Waverley, built in 1899 and sunk at Dunkirk in 1940, andcruised to all parts of the Clyde Estuary until withdrawn after the 1973 season by Caledonian-MacBrayne. Next year she was sold to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and re-entered service in 1975 with support from local authorities. She is pictured at Craigendoran pier in 1972.

Shandon Hydro Conservatory1267 viewsThe Conservatory at Shandon Hydropathic Hotel. Originally West Shandon, this magnificent building was the home of Robert Napier, the greatest figure in Clyde shipbuilding and marine engineering in the mid-19th century. During World War One the Hydro became a hospital, and in World War Two it was used by the army. In 1951 it became a hotel again, but in 1957 it was closed and demolished. Hermitage Park War Memorial1267 viewsThe War Memorial in Hermitage Park, circa 1930. In those days the pond was full, but nowadays it is empty for safety reasons. Designed by well known local architect Alexander Nisbet Paterson after a campaign by his father-in-law, artist J.Whitelaw Hamilton, one of the 'Glasgow Boys', the War Memorial was completed in 1923. A service is held in the Garden of Remembrance on the Sunday nearest to November 11.
