PS Jeanie Deans1601 viewsThe paddle steamer Jeanie Deans was built by Fairfield at Govan and launched in 1931, then extensively refitted after war service. She remained a passenger favourite on cruises from Craigendoran until the end of the 1964 season. The next year she went to the Thames and was renamed 'Queen of the South'. She was broken up in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1967.

Helensburgh's west esplanade1599 viewsAn old view of the west bay seafront, with railings along the prom and a shelter in the distance. On the other side of the road, where the Augusta Lodge cafe buildings stand now, is the entrance to the former home of Lady Augusta Clavering, elder daughter of the 5th Duke of Argyll. It was a plain, substantial house, built about 1804, with a grass plot in front, and an iron railing next the street. Image date unknown.

Photographer in uniform1597 viewsKeen Helensburgh photographer Robert Thorburn is the man in front in this presumably World War One group picture. A grocery shop manager, he moved to Helensburgh before 1900, and lived at 24 East Princes Street on March 2 1900 when he married Christina Graham, of 29 James Street. His age at the time of his marriage was given as 27, and he lived in Helensburgh until his death in 1945.

Cairndhu pillar1597 viewsA pillar at the former Cairndhu Hotel, later a nursing home for the elderly and now disused and boarded up. Hogwarts Express1594 views"The Hogwarts Express" is pictured at Helensburgh Upper Station on October 9 2007, returning south after filming one of the Harry Potter films. Prince Albert Terrace1592 viewsThe Terrace in Victoria Road was built in the late 1870s by William Tait for the Cramb family, who owned Hermitage Park. It is said to have been built to such a height and facing north on the orders of the owners to obscure the view of the river from Lansdowne House opposite and overlook it, because Susannah Cramb had been jilted by a young man from Landsdowne. Novelist A.J.Cronin (1896-1981) lived in the Terrace, and contemporary portrait painter Stephen Conroy was born at no.3 in 1964.
