Flag gifted Down Under2478 viewsMargaret Badham, Assistant Principal at Helensburgh Public School in New South Wales, Australia, supplied this old picture, taken when a red Union Jack was presented to her school by the pupils of our Hermitage School in 1911. The flag is kept in a frame in the school in Australia, and the photo from the school archive shows the raising of the flag for the first time.

The Ram's Head Bridge2469 viewsThis photo by Donald Fullarton shows the Ram's Head Bridge in Glen Luss, built in 1777 by William Johns, seen in winter with little vegetation. It was also known as the Tupp Bridge. Glen Luss was one of the first of the Highland glens to be cleared after the defeat of the Jacobites in 1745, with the people forced off the land and replaced by the Linton breed of black-faced sheep.

It was built in 1880 in late Gothic style for the School Board of Row on land formerly part of Hermitage House made available by the Cramb family, and demolished in 1977 by George Hood & Co. Ltd. This image compilation is from photos taken by Stewart Noble of the carvings, now in the garden of the home of Mr Hood's son Charlie.
