Sir Iain Colquhoun of Luss1372 viewsSir Iain Colquhoun DSO (1887-1948), 7th Baronet of Luss, Chief of Clan Colquhoun, and Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, was pictured on the steps of the family home, Rossdhu, Luss — now the exclusive Loch Lomond Golf Club — by Robert Thorburn, a keen amateur photographer and grocery store manager who moved to the burgh before 1900. Sugar ship1371 viewsThe 8,325 ton Greek cargo ship Captayannis lying on a sandbank near to Ardmore Point. On the evening of January 27 1974 the area suffered from a terrific storm which blew the vessel from its anchor and caused it to collide with the BP tanker British Light. The anchor chains of the tanker holed the sugar boat, allowing water to pour into her, so she was beached in the shallow waters over the sandbank. It was designed by the celebrated golfer Willie Fernie who that day played Ben Sayers over the 18 holes. They carded 76 and 77 respectively.
