Queen's Hotel1422 viewsThe Queen's Hotel was originally Baths House, built by Henry Bell, who built Europe's first commercial steamship the Comet in 1812 and was the first Provost of Helensburgh. Andy Clyde1418 viewsFilm actor Andy Clyde was brought up in Helensburgh where his family had a grocers shop on West Princes Street. Son of a Scottish theatrical producer/manager, he joined his siblings David and Jean on stage in childhood. He went to the States in the early 1920s to join producer Mack Sennett's roster of comedians. An expert at makeup, Clyde played a variety of roles, from city slickers to unshaven bums. He appeared as California, comic sidekick to western star William Boyd, in the Hopalong Cassidy westerns.

Conservative Club1417 viewsThe upstairs premises at 40 Sinclair Street, Helensburgh, housed the Conservative and Unionist Club Rooms. The attractive building was designed in 1894 by Honeyman and Keppie, and it is thought Charles Rennie Mackintosh, then a young architect employed by the firm, contributed to the design which has many Glasgow-style features. A statue of St Andrew, the crest of the club, occupies a niche in a central position on the facade. Now the building is owned by the clothing firm Mackays. Image by Stewart Noble.

Craigendoran Station1416 viewsA view of Craigendoran Station in its heyday, with the platform on the left leading down to the steamer terminal. It opened for business under the North British Railway on May 15 1882, and steamer services were finally withdrawn in 1972.
