The tube contained two cathode-ray beams, each scanning opposite sides of a clear mica disc. On side had a blue-green fluorescent coating and the other orange-red. It was the world's first colour television picture tube, and only one survives today in the National Media Museum.

As he had done 50 years earlier, retired naval architect Gerhard Schack, an octogenarian, raised a glass in tribute to the man who pioneered commercial steamships.
