Ross's Hotel1450 viewsRoss's Hotel in Arrochar, Ashfield House, Jenniville, Prospect House, Prospect View and Prospect Bank all belonged to the Ross family. The old Ross's Hotel, which was a small temperance hotel built in the 1870s by Alexander Ross, has now changed its name to the Loch Long Hotel and grown in size to dominate the village landscape. Stormy Craigendoran Station1447 viewsWaves break over the line and platform at Craigendoran Station leading down to the steamer terminal. In the distance is thought to be the old Drumfork Ferry House. The station and terminal opened for business under the North British Railway on May 15 1882, and steamer services were finally withdrawn in 1972. The piers have since become derelict, and on the firth side of the line the station buildings are long gone. Image date unknown.

De Gaulle at Cove1445 viewsFree French leader General Charles De Gaulle, later to become President of France, visited Free French naval wounded at the World War Two Knockderry Hospital in Cove — in the requisitioned Knockderry Castle — on Christmas Eve 1942. Having arrived with his aides by taxi from Kilcreggan Pier, driven by local man Tom McNeilage, he spent an hour with the patients and distributed gifts. The Secretary of State for Scotland would have attended to welcome him, but did not have enough notice of the visit.
