Highland Games1662 viewsElizabeth Breheny is pictured with her mother and aunts at the Helensburgh Highland Games at Camis Eskan in the early 1950s. This is thought to have been the last burgh Games, but it is planned to resurrect the event in the summer of 2008 at Ardencaple.

Caledonian no.1231662 viewsCaledonian locomotive no.123 pictured at the Helensburgh engine depot in 1948 during an excursion to mark the centenary of the Caledonian Railway. Built by Neilson & Co. in Springburn in 1886, she won a gold medal at the Edinburgh International Exhibition that year. In regular service, no.123 worked on the 101-mile Carlisle to Edinburgh section of the west coast route. She was withdrawn in 1935 and is now an exhibit at Glasgow's Transport Museum. Several engines were based at Helensburgh although they were nominally allocated to Parkhead. Of Gresley design and introduced in 1930, engines in this class weighed 84 tons.

Shandon Bus Crash1654 viewsA Garelochhead Coach Service double decker bus lies on the beach at Shandon after an accident on the old lochside road in November 1965. Andrew Shirley from Rhu, who is researching the Garelochhead bus companies, believes this bus is MXX 177, one of the former London Transport RT class operated by the firm. It was repaired and put back into service.
