The portrait is believed to be by David Martin (1737-97), a painter of over 300 portraits and engraver. Born in Anstruther, Fife, he studied in London and Italy before gaining a reputation as a portrait painter. Inscribed by the artist on the reverse side, it was offered for sale in October 2011 at £4,750. Portrait mystery1028 viewsSir James Guthrie (1859-1930), who lived much of his life at Rhu and Helensburgh and was the leader of the now famous Glasgow Boys, painted this portrait of a young girl. Art collector Jim Smith from Blantyre owns the 24 x 18s ins charcoal and crayon drawing, and would love to know who the young lady subject was.

To Pastures New1024 viewsThis is considered to be one of the finest works of Sir James Guthrie (1859-1930), who lived much of his life at Rhu and Helensburgh and was the leader of the now famous Glasgow Boys. Painted in the summer of 1883 in Crowland, a small and picturesque village in Lincolnshire, it was completed in Helensburgh over the winter.

Rosneath shore913 viewsAn etching of Rosneath shore and the Gareloch by Greenock-based artist Peter Kerr. The McLean Museum in Greenock has many of his paintings. Most of his landscapes were of the Clyde shores, and Cove and Kilcreggan. He was married to Catherine McMillan, born in Helensburgh in 1863, whose family owned the Teak and Ash.
