Iona Colquhoun marries Marquis1506 viewsIona Colquhoun (18), daughter of Luss laird Sir Ivar Colquhoun and his wife and a former pupil of Helensburgh's St Bride's School, married the Marquis of Lorne (26), heir to the Duke of Argyll, at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh in the summer of 1965, and the reception for 500 guests — many of them local — followed at the Assembly Rooms. A surprise guest was Lord Colin Campbell, the Duke's younger son, who arrived unexpectedly from New Zealand. It appeared on a postcard published in 1990 to mark 175 years of the company and Glasgow being European City of Culture. Launched in 1814, she became the seventh steamboat to service the Clyde, mainly carrying luggage and cargo between Greenock and Glasgow, but also serving as one of the Clyde’s first tugs. Her career spanned over half a century and prior to her retirement she was the oldest steamer operating on the Clyde.Sep 05, 2011
