This slightly damaged image was kindly supplied by Doris Gentles, whose father, Harry Smith, is in the picture fifth from the right in the second row. He was one of four brothers serving in the trenches, and two of them were severely wounded.

Some 200 young men went from the Parish to take part in the military operations, and of these 31 lost their lives.

In the background is a steamer at the now demolished Arrochar Pier, and the summit of the Cobbler mountain.
