Navy prepares327 viewsA rare World War Two photograph taken from Portkil, Kilcreggan, looking at a battleship and several cruisers in the Clyde between Portkil and Greenock. Donated to the Heritage Trust by Michael Wilson, the image is thought to be of vessels assembling for the North Africa landings in 1943.

Nude Study by Stephen Conroy462 viewsNude Study by highly regarded Helensburgh artist Stephen Conroy, is an 18 x 14 inches charcoal drawing on paper which was originally purchased at the Glasgow School of Art Degree Show in 1987, the year it was drawn. Inscribed by the artist on the reverse side, it was offered for sale in October 2011 at £4,750. Stephen, whose paintings can sell for as much as £100,000, was born in Helensburgh in 1964, and brought up in Renton. He lives near Cardross. Image supplied by Ewan Mundy Fine Art, Glasgow.

The model is one of two very early ones made of the Comet (perhaps builders models?) and its twin is in the Science Museum in Kensington, London. The museum has other artefacts which were salvaged from the wreck of the second Comet, but these are not currently on display. Photo by Stewart Noble.

Agricultural Trial624 viewsAn unusual picture of a mossland reclamation experiment conducted by the West of Scotland Agricultural College at Daligan Farm, above Helensburgh. The two plots were dressed the previous year with Quicklime, at a rate of four tons per acre, and it is claimed that the increase in potato crop in the left hand plot thanks to Albert's Basic Slag and Potash was enormous, with 6 tons 6 cwt of potatoes per acre, valued at £2 per ton. Granary bus crash20 viewsA Garelochhead Coach Services bus crashed into the Granary Restaurant on West Clyde Street after careering down Sinclair Street when the brakes failed. The driver of a Saturday bus from Luss elected to hit the building rather than land on the shore, and was widely praised for his skill in avoiding pedestrians. No-one was seriously injured.
